This
is one of 26 drawings of City of London aldermen made in the
mid fifteenth century which are believed to have come from
'Sir Thomas Holme's Book' Simon Eyre was originally an upholsterer
and was later admitted to the freedom of the Drapers' Company.
He served as alderman for various wards, and he was Mayor
in 1445-6. He built Leadenhall as a granary for the City,
and it is said that his 'bounty, like Saul, stands higher
than any other from the shoulder upwards'
