Description
"The Ceremony of Administering the Mayoralty Oath to Nathaniel Newnham, November 8 1782"; depicts Nathaniel Newnham, Lord Mayor, standing in the Guildhall in a state robe. He is taking the Mayoralty oath from the book held by the Common Cryer, before the town clerk. The Sword bearer and Chamberlain wait behind the Common Cryer. The Pitt monument can be seen to the right.
