A view of the corner of Margaret Street and Princes Street, Fitzrovia. A number of pedestrians can be seen. A sign on the pavement tells of men working overhead and a cradle on a hoist is visible on an adjacent building. Two workmen are at 1st floor height on the right side of the image. Also to the right, the back of a double-decker Routemaster bus can be seen. This bus is a number 12 to Forest Hill, Peckham, Elephant & Castle. Advertising posters for Ancaster Garages and Mobilgas are fixed to the back of the bus. The corner building at 34-36 Margaret Street and number 14 Prices Street is occupied by Dorville House. A young man stands near the corner and holds a black and white striped surveyor’s pole. A road stall sits near the intersection of the two streets. Further down Princes Street an awning advertises Cavendish Snack Bar. Several cars are parked on the road. A large lorry with the firm name Eastex on its front is seen to the right of the image. Margaret Street is named after Margaret Bentinck, Duchess of Portland, daughter of local landowner Edward Harley, 2nd Earl of Oxford and Earl Mortimer. Prince’s Street, also known as John Prince's Street is named after John Prince, surveyor to the Cavendish-Harley estate in the 1710s.
