View of Barnard's Castle and boats on the River Thames, set within the ornamental regalia of the Lord Mayor. The arms of the City of London above and the personal coat of arms, crest and motto beneath of Sills John Gibbons (1809-1876), Common Councillor of Castle Baynard ward 1858-1862, elected Alderman for the ward in 1862, Lord Mayor in 1871. Coat of Arms shows the impaled marital arms of Gibbons of Sittingbourne, Kent on left and his wife Ann, daughter of William Crookes. Arms shown are those different from those officially granted to him when created a baronet cited in Burke’s General Armoury.
