A view across Fitzroy Square, Fitzrovia, towards its west side from the junction with Fitzroy Street. At the left is the side elevation of number 40 Fitzroy Square with blank windows. Across the square, the view shows the front elevations of number 20-32 Fitzroy Square, a long terrace of grand houses. The square has many mature trees, not in leaf. Scaffolding and other equipment has been placed among the trees. This was probably for work to build the Victoria Line of London Underground which was under construction at the time of the photograph and passes under the square between Warren Street and Oxford Circus stations. Some construction barriers are visible in the square as well as a number of parked vehicles. Dating from about 1832-35, numbers 20-32 Fitzroy Square and their railings were Grade II* listed in 1954; listing number 1112996.
