A view of Orient Street, Elephant and Castle, looking south from 29 West Square. The two doorways of 29 West Square and 1 Orient Street are adjacent. Number 29 West Square is a wider and taller end-of-terrace property abutting 1 Orient Street, which is one storey shorter. Each of these doorways are accessed by five steps and bordered by black wrought iron railings. Although not identical, both wooden doors have elaborate wooden panels and are framed in Regency style plasterwork columns. They have fanlights situated above. Number 1 Orient Street has a narrow pillared portico which looks in need of maintenance. There are steps down to basement entrances. There is a black wrought iron decorative balcony protruding across the first-floor windows of 29 West Square. All the houses have net curtains hanging at the windows. The visible terraced houses on Orient Street seem dilapidated. These properties still exist and have been refurbished and maintained in the original style. On the other side of the Orient Street, where it bends eastwards, is a three-storey tenement block, possibly Victorian. There are some cars parked adjacent on the street. This building has since been demolished and replaced with low-rise care home housing.
