View of Bankside, possibly from Broken Wharf on the north side of the Thames. Barges, some laden with coal, are moored on the river. From left to right, the buildings are British Lion Wharf, Globe Wharf, Devonshire Wharf, Phoenix Wharf, Queen's Wharf, Travers & Crown Wharf (approximate location of the Millennium Bridge), the original Pioneer, coal-fired power station with three chimneys (extended to the east as the 18 chimney Bankside A power station and demolished in 1959 to make way for the new Bankside B power station which eventually became Tate Modern art gallery), Royal George Wharf, Willow Wharf, Honduras Wharf and Epp's Steam Cocoa factory.
