View of basement and ground floor of 55 West Square, Newington, on the north side of the square. Ornate, cast iron supports for a missing structure of some kind are attached to the wall above the ground floor. Numbers 46 to 60 have since been demolished and rebuilt in the Georgian style. The square is in the heart of a Conservation Area, designated in 1971, and is one of the earliest surviving examples of Georgian squares in south London.
