A view of North Thames Gas Board, Ben Johnson Road, Stepney, on the corner with Harford Street. A two-storey building with its front elevation and main entrance at forty-five degree angle to Ben Johnson Road and Harford Street, which both have elevations extending fifteen windows long. The large double doors are accessed up eight steps through a columned porch which has a plinth above with the name North Thames Gas. There are two windows either side of the entrance, and five at first floot level, the middle of which has columns with scrolls and a semi-circular pediment. Three of the five gasometers which stood on this site are visible. The buildings and gasometers have been demolished and the Candle Street housing complex occupies the site. A block of flats, incorporating the Harford Street multicentre and a pharmacy, have been built on the site of the old building, with the same forty-five degree angular frontage.
