Description
A view, looking northwest, of numbers 169-187 Hackney Road, Haggerston. On the left-hand side is a three-storey building, number 169, with a sign reading 'Sleepy Valley' above the wood-framed ground-floor shopfront; there are metal-framed Crittall windows on the floors above and a metal fire escape on the east side. Next door is 171-185 Hackney Road, behind a wood and corrugated iron fence with two openings onto the road. A job vacancy board is attached to the fence, behind which are two Sleepy Valley lorries and a Jaguar Mk II; there are also sprung bedframes and a tractor unit in the yard. Two commercial, single-storey buildings with corrugated iron roofs are fronting the yard. On the right-hand side is 187 Hackney Road, a two-storey building advertising Everett & Co Engravers & Die Sinkers. On the pavement is a man with a flat cap, a street light and two poles supporting trolley bus power cables. Number 169 Hackney Road still stands but all the other buildings were replaced in the 1970s by the Fellows Court Estate, social housing.
