Description
Front elevation of 29 Trinity Almshouses, Mile End Road, Whitechapel, also known as Park House. The Almshouses are Grade I listed, listing number 1241071. They were originally built in 1695 to provide housing for retired sailors, and are the oldest almshouses in Central London. The left portion of this building with the ‘plaque’ scroll has a ship on either side of the central triangular pediment. These model ships appear in a 1770 engraving, however the ones on this building are fibreglass replicas with the original marble models being stored in the Museum of London.
