Front elevation of terraced houses at Pennington Street, Wapping, looking east at the corner of John's Hill. Many local people pose for the photo. The houses have angular pedimented porches with lead or zinc coverings and wooden shutters on the ground-floor windows. The cobbled street rises towards the east up to the level of the first floor at the highest point in the distance. There is a cast iron bollard with an iron knee on the corner of the street and cast iron railings along the pavement. By 1936 much of the terrace was derelict or already demolished. John's Hill no longer exists and the area is currently occupied by light industrial buildings.
