Description
A view of Dunstan Houses, Stepney Green, Stepney, taken from the corner of Cressy Place, showing the dwellings' copper dome. Dunstan Houses, five-storey Victorian red brick dwellings, were built by the East End Dwellings Company Ltd and completed in 1899. The East End Dwellings Company was formed in the early 1880s by the Vicar of St Jude's, Whitechapel, the Reverend Samuel Augustus Barnett. The intention of the company was to provide housing for the poor, including those whom other philanthropic housing companies often avoided, such as casual day labourers. The building is covered in ivy, there is a For Sale board on the side of the building and vehicles parked on the street.
