Staircase in 20 Albemarle Street, Piccadilly, part of The Royal Institution. Looking up an early nineteenth century stone staircase, covered with a threadbare carpet, and a wrought iron balustrade curving onto a landing. A full-height bookcase runs along this, full of bound volumes, up to a decorated plaster cornice. Two doorways lead off of the landing, one with an arched entrance and a skylight. A modern light hangs from a chain from a ceiling, which has had major plaster repairs. Looking down the stairs there is a large portrait of a bearded man holding a manuscript, with a crooked light above it. Below is a fire hose on a reel. The building is Grade II listed, listing number 1066520.
