Description
Street scene showing the Gaiety Theatre at the corner of Aldwych and Strand, Westminster, which opened in 1868. Also the YMCA building and the Waldorf Hotel with the Strand Theatre (later Novello) next door with a performance of Dorothy. The main attractions at the theatre were burlesques and musical comedies which came with the Shop Girl in 1894. Pedestrians, horses and carriages and other traffic are in view around the junction.
