A view of the front elevation of buildings at 55-57 Charing Cross, Westminster and occupied by insurance companies. These are Union Assurance Society at number 55, Liverpool & London & Globe Insurance Company at 56 and Phoenix Assurance Company at 57. The buildings have three or four storeys and are three windows wide. The side elevation of number 55 is supported by massive wooden buttresses. The buildings no longer exist, having been demolished to open up access to Admiralty Arch, which is just visible at the left. A man can be seen on the pavement. A later building occupies part of the site of number 57. This part of Charing Cross is now Trafalgar Square.
