Description
A view of buildings on the east side of Chancery Lane, Holborn. They bear posters advertising the sale by auctioneers of materials, possibly from their demolition or that of the Rolls Building to the rear in 1896. The buildings have three or four storeys above a basement. They were used as storage for the "rolls" or records of the court of chancery. Rolls Yard lay behind the buildings shown, on which stood the former Rolls Building or Rolls House and the Rolls Chapel. None of these buildings still exist and the site is mostly occupied by the former Public Record Office, now the Maughan Library of Kings College London.
