Description
A view of the front elevations of buildings in Glasshouse Street and Regent Street, Soho. The image shows the Cathay Restaurant at 4 Glasshouse Street, sometimes regarded as London's first mainstream Chinese restaurant, having opened in 1908. To the left of the picture is a branch of jeweller H Samuel. Both have about four storeys of other accommodation above. To the right is a Wimpy Bar at 48 Regent Street. It later became a Burger King and closed in 2012. The block faces Piccadilly Circus. The facades have been retained for a commercial redevelopment called LucentW1. Number 48 Regent Street is in any case largely covered by Piccadilly Circus illuminated advertisements.
