Description
Doorway of Cromwell House, Horse Guards Avenue, Westminster. The door is approached by stone steps leading from the street, which was called Whitehall Yard at that time. The keystone doorway has blocked quoins and a moulded pediment. Cromwell House no longer exists; it was replaced along with two other Georgian houses - Cadogan House and Pembroke House - by the neoclassical Grade I listed main building of The Ministry of Defence, built between 1938 and 1959. However, five rooms from the three houses were incorporated into the MoD main building as conference rooms known as the Historic Rooms.
