Ground-floor rear room of Eltham House, formerly located at 19 Eltham High Street. The ornate ceiling, fireplace and a number of gas cookers and pots and pans are visible along with a sign advertising that a clean cooker means gas saved. Eltham House lost most of its front garden after the widening of the High Street in the late 1920s. Its rooms became a showroom for the South Metropolitan Gas Company and it subsequently had the address of 113 in the newly renumbered High Street, although the house itself would have occupied both 111 and 113 in the present Eltham High Street. The house was eventually demolished in the late 1930s.
