A view of the front and side elevations of shops and flats including Balgores Cafe at 1, Balgores Square, Gidea Park, Romford. This early twentieth-century corner building has a four window range including bay. The ground floor shop is Balgores Cafe. It has a central corner door with a covered porch area comprising four rectangular pillars at each elevation supporting the overhang of the floor above. The cafe windows have curtains drawn. There is a sign saying, "BALGORES CAFE BREAKFASTS DINNERS TEAS SNACKS". There is a "PEPSI" advertising sign on the door and a sign for "GOLDEN WONDER" crisps on a window. There are three Doric columns in front of the neighbouring shop with a sign saying, "ALBERT EDWARDS". These buildings were designed as part of the Romford Garden Suburb built before and after World War I. This building was erected in 1911 and designed by Fair and Val Myer architects. A Ford Zephyr car is in view, registration number, HWC 676. The cafe is now a dry cleaning business. The buildings lie within the Gidea Park Conservation Area.
