Arms of the Olmius family on mantlepiece at 21 Austin Friars.
Olmius, merchant resident from 1705 whose name was a Latinised form of the Flemish or Dutch word for elm. The Gerverdine arms are those of his mother Margareta; the arms on the escutcheon in pretence are those of his wife Judith Drigue. Austin Friars was demolished in 1888. The family originated from Arlon in the Duchy of Luxembourg and naturalised by an Act of Parliament 29, Charles II. He was a member of the French protestant church in Threadneedle Street. Arms Quarteed: 1 Olmius, 2 Gerverdine, 3 Reynstein, 4 Capre and in pretence Drigue.
