London Metropolitan Archives: Baddeley Collection
Illustration from "Cripplegate Ward" by J.J. Baddeley (1921), showing view of Moorfields looking north, twenty yards from the junction with Fore Street, City of London. Two entrances to Moorgate Station are visible on the left. In the foreground is the entrance to the platforms of what is now the Great Northern Route. Further north is the entrance to the Metropolitan Line platforms (now including the Hammersmith and City). Sixty firms occupied the chambers above the station, including merchants, manufacturers and professional firms. The left turning in the distance is into New Union Street; on the right is Moor Place, a short conduit joining Moorfields to Moorgate. People and vehicles in view.
