Upper panel shows the City of London from Southwark before the Great Fire of London in 1666; middle panel shows the same view after the Great Fire. Lower panel consists of Sir Christopher Wren's plan for rebuilding London. A main avenue runs from Aldgate to Fleet Street, passing through a great circus in which stands the Royal Exchange. A second great avenue runs from the Tower to converge with the first at St Pauls Cathedral. There is a wide Thames quay. The panoramic views were copied from the work of Wenceslas Hollar but only extend to Baynard's Castle in the west. There is no evidence that the scheme was ever considered as a practical basis for rebuilding.
