This playbill features a production of William Shakespeare's play Cymbeline at the Theatre Royal, Sadler's Wells in November 1850 under the management of Samuel Phelps (1804-1878). Phelps, appearing as Leonatus Posthumus in this production, has been credited with revolutionising performances of Shakespeare's plays during the 19th century by restoring the original text of the first folio. The playbill notes that a new drama Broken Toys by John Daly would also be performed and that The Duchess of Malfi by John Webster was currently in rehearsal.
