London Metropolitan Archives: City of London Photographs
View of the east side of Aldersgate, City of London, looking north. The continuous range of buildings spans numbers 25-39 Aldersgate, looking south to north into the picture. The sign ‘Petrol, repairs, car service & washing’ is pointing into Falcon Street. A few years later, the new road, London Wall, would join Aldersgate roughly where the wooden fencing is visible. The extension behind number 25 (with arched indents) housed a typewriter works according to the 1951 Ordnance Survey map. Number 27 was the King’s Arms Tavern. Between numbers 30 and 31 (the Star public house) was the entrance to Maidenhead Court.
