Description
A view of Custom House at 20 Lower Thames Street, City of London, seen from the river. A custom house - used for the collection of customs duties - has been present in the area since the fourteenth century, and a building on this site has been rebuilt a number of times. This version was designed by David Laing and built from 1813-17. It was Grade I listed in 1972; listing number 1359153. Various vessels are moored in the foreground, on one of which are three men looking at the camera. Other men are dotted around the quay, some of whom are wearing bowler hats.
