Description
A view of the fronts of the derelict early nineteenth-century two-storey houses at 57-63 Forest Road, Hackney, which sat between Holly Street and Queensbridge Road. The houses date from c1840s and include Classical and Regency period style features, such as the arched window surrounded by stone dressings and a triangular pediment on the roof as seen on the right of the photograph. Entrances and windows have been bricked up and the sash windows are smashed and show signs of fire damage. Short chimney stacks and chimney pots can be seen protruding above the houses. On the far left of the photograph can be seen part of the tower of the Grade II listed Holy Trinity, Beechwood Road, designed by Ewan Christian in the High Victorian Gothic style and built in 1879. The church is also known as the 'Clowns' Church'. In the street can be seen a tree and a car which is either an Austin 1100 or a Morris 1100. The houses no longer exist and the site is now occupied by the turning into Buttermere Walk and late twentieth-century housing which now occupies the right hand corner of Forest Road and Buttermere Walk.
