On Waterloo Road is a large building with a frieze THE ROYAL WATERLOO HOSPITAL FOR WOMEN AND CHILDREN. Originally founded in the City of London in 1816 as the Universal Dispensary for Children by Dr John Bunnell Davis, it moved to this site in 1823 although it did not admit patients for another twenty years due to financial problems. In 1875 it was renamed the Royal Hospital for Children and Women, and was completely rebuilt in 1903 as the Royal Waterloo Hospital for Children and Women. At the start of the NHS it became part of St Thomas's Hospital. It is now part of the Kings College London campus.
