View of Westminster Bridge Road, Lambeth, looking north west under the railway viaduct which carries trains to Waterloo Station. In view is a sign for WILLS GOLDEN FLAKE (tobacco). Under the bridge, a man crosses the road looking at the camera and a policeman directs traffic. On the corner with Lower Marsh is The Red Lion public house with a sign for FAMOUS WINE HOUSE BARCLAYS BEERS. Outside is a newspaper vendor. This remains a pub now called The Walrus. On the opposite side of Lower Marsh is The Dover Castle public house; a five-storey building with a turret. 164-168 Westminster Bridge Road is an Art Deco-style four-storey factory of THOS. P. HEADLAND Ltd ENGINEERS MECHANICS MOTOR FACTORS with a sign above the door for DZUS FASTENER EUROPE. Headland was in business there from 1936 to 1971. On a frieze at the top of the building is the slogan IF ENGINEERS USE IT HEADLAND SELLS IT. This site is now a modern office block.
