Description
General view of Preston's Road, Poplar, looking south towards the bridge over the Blackwall entrance lock to the West India Docks. The street is cobbled and along both sides of the road are the high boundary walls of the docks. Groups of men in jackets and flat caps walk towards the photographer. Two horse drawn, four-wheel, covered wagons travel in opposite directions, one with two boys perched at the rear. In the centre of the road a Dennis 4-ton double deck omnibus with rear stair is visible. On the right, behind the dock wall, are mature trees in the grounds of the Bridge House Dock Masters residence. A typed note across the bottom of the picture reads "1584 Prestons Road, looking north c1920 88.OPRE".
