View of the front and side elevations of derelict two-storey terraced houses at 11-14 Pier Head Cottages, Westferry Road, Isle of Dogs, near the entrance to Millwall Dock, looking towards River Thames and Limehouse Reach. The cottages were designed by F.E. Duckham, the engineer of the Millwall Dock Company. Built by C. Lewis and J. Bostock in 1875, they orginally housed employees such as dock policemen and the lock foreman. The windows are broken and the door is boarded-up with corrugated iron sheets. Metal rubbish bin is in view. In the distance are dock buildings in the area around Fenner's Wharf. The row of cottages was originally much longer, but numbers 3-10, one of which housed the dockmaster, were demolished in 1954-55. Numbers 11-14 were later demolished by the London Docklands Development Corporation in 1986. Housing dating from the 1980s and Old Bellgate Place now cover the site.
