Title
Houses in Cold Harbour
Description
Riverside houses at 5-7 Cold Harbour, Isle of Dogs. The pair of four-storey yellow brick houses were built in the early nineteenth century and were at one time owned by the West India Dock Company as residences for assistant dockmasters. They are Grade II listed, listing number 1065223. A woman with folded arms looks out at the camera from the doorway of Nelson House next door at number 3, framed by a fine Georgian fanlight and fluted Doric column. Isle House, the old dockmasters' residence at number 1 can also be seen at the far end of the street. A pint of milk has been left on the step at number 5. In the foreground is the site of the demolished Fishing Smack public house. All that is left is an old timber door propped up against a sheet of corrugated metal and a glazed-tile corner column. A framed sign with the name 'W & M Negus Ltd' hangs from a peg on the remains of an upper floor. A laden wheelbarrow has been left beside a pile of gravel. Riverside townhouses were built on this site in the 1970s.
