Title
Buildings in Albemarle Street
Description
Oblique view of numbers 1-3 Albemarle Street, Piccadilly, looking towards Piccadilly. Numbers 1 and 2 Grade II listed, listing number 1226679. They are a corner block of offices and shops with four windows onto Piccadilly (numbers 61 and 62) and five windows on Albemarle Street. They date from 1887 and are by Ernest George and Peto, with terracotta facing in Northern Renaissance style. They have five main storeys and double attics. There are two archways, one with entrance and a balcony above and two large, shaped gables. Number 3 was built as an extension of the Old Bond Street gallery of Agnew's, the art dealers, in 1914 and the company's banner is visible outside. Beyond this is a hanging sign for The Parker Gallery. On the left, what might be a Moulton bike leans against the railings whilst a four-door Ford Cortina, registration VHJ 563H, is parked on a meter. Other vehicles include an MGB Roadster, an MGB GT, a Mini and in the background a Leyland FG removal van from the company 'Bishop's Move'. There are pedestrians and in the background the buildings of St James's Street are visible.
