Shops in Carnaby Street
Description
A view of 45-47a Carnaby Street, Soho, four-storey buildings with shop fronts, looking in the direction of Beak Street, Soho. Shops in the scene include the shoe shop Shoes By Topper at number 45 (far right of the photograph) and the neighbouring tobaconnists shop also at number 45 called Inderwick's. Painted onto the window of Inderwick's is the text 'England's Oldest Pipemakers Established 1797'. Hanging from the shop are two signs for Inderwick's one of which has the silhouette of a pipe painted onto it. Further along the row can be seen the clothes shop called '2nd. Gear' at number 46. Further signs hanging from the buildings include a sign for Pauls Boutique at number 47, a large For Sale sign and another which announces 'Workrooms Available'. Above the shoe shop at number 45 is a sign which reads 'Topper' and which contains patterns and lettering in a style and design typical of the 1960s. Through the shop windows such as the shoe shop can be seen various products and wares and attached to the upper floor windows at number 46, which is painted entirely in white, can be seen iron flower box rails. In the street can be seen a lamppost in a modernist design containing two glass globes. Pedestrians can be seen walking along the pedestrianised street which is covered in coloured geometric shapes. The group of pedestrians are wearing fashionable clothes of the 1970s including flared bottomed trousers and the majority have fashionable long hair. Also in the scene can be seen a cylindrical concrete rubbish bin.
