Description
View of Horse Guards Avenue, Westminster, looking to Horse Guards in Whitehall. The Horse Guards building was commissioned in 1745 and designed in Palladian style by the architect William Kent. A clock is sited in the turret above the main archway; it has two faces, one facing Whitehall and the other, Horse Guards Parade. To the left of the picture is the War Office, and the building to the left is the Board of Trade. At the junction between Horse Guards Avenue and Whitehall is a statue of Spencer Cavendish, 8th Duke of Devonshire. There are pedestrians on the pavement and crossing the road. There is traffic on Whitehall and parked cars on Horse Guards Avenue.
