Title
Victoria Embankment by Hungerford Bridge from south bank
Description
Hungerford Bridge on Victoria Embankment, Westminster, viewed from the Lion Brewery on the south bank. It is low tide, with the muddy foreshore in evidence. Beyond the two tourist boats, on a buoy midstream, is a large sailing ship, moored at Charing Cross Pier; she was the barquentine, "Emma Ernest". On the extreme right, Cleopatra's Needle can be seen. The original Charing Cross station can be seen, behind the gantry signal box on the bridge. Behind is the large bulk of the Charing Cross Hotel, with the top of the spire of St Martin-in-the Fields beyond. Right of these, the globe on top of the Coliseum theatre.
