Title
Dutch House public house in Sidcup Road
Description
View of the Sidcup Road, Eltham, looking north by the junction with Mottingham Lane towards the railway bridge. The Dutch House public house, is clearly visible on the left hand side of the photograph. The pub was built in the 1930s to serve the new Horn Park Estate. The brewers engaged a team of Woolwich architects and sent them to Holland to learn and imitate the Dutch style of building. The imposing 1930s road house with splendid Flemish architectural features had a very large car park which made it a popular meeting place for bikers in the 1950s and 60s. An advertising sign for Hillman Minx cars can be seen on the railway bridge.
