Title
Galleon Cafe in Abbey Road
Description
A view of the back of Galleon Cafe, 34 Abbey Road, Barking. The three-storey corner cafe, which likely dates in part from around the early nineteenth-century (or possibly earlier), has a large sign painted onto the side wall stating 'Cafe Galleon Cafe'. The building has an extension, possibly for industrial use, with windows looking out to a building site. A roadworks vehicle can be seen on the left. Beyond the wall can be seen one of the housing tower blocks of the 1960s Gascoigne Estate. The small building once sat on the corner of York Street, by Barking Creek. The cafe survived, though it was re-built and is surrounded by modern apartment buildings.
