Title
Trematon in Broom Road
Description
Originally called Haramby House and subsequently Eastcote, Trematon was built in 1863/64 at Broom Road, Teddington, and was puchased by the pioneering Victorian physician John Langdon Down and his wife Mary for Normansfield Hospital, providing accommodation for residential patients with learning disabilities. The hospital closed in 1997 and although the principal buildings, including its magnificent theatre, were Grade II* listed in 1983 and refurbished as the Langon Park housing development, some of the surrounding buildings including Trematon and Conifers, were sold off and redeveloped. The residential cul-de-sac Trematon Place marks the former location of Trematon House. This view is believed to show the east facade of the house from its driveway off Broom Road.
