Born in Connecticut, Stratton was led into show business by P.T. Barnum, who also gave him his stage name and the billing 'The Smallest Man Alive'. He made his London stage debut in 1844 at the Princess Theatre. This photograph shows Stratton at the age of 20, posing with Barnum.
