Site of Bourne Estate Extension in Verulam Street
Bourne Estate Extension, Verulam Street, Holborn, corner of Gray's Inn Road. A vacant space with advertising boards. Advertisements include ones for Lucozade, The Empress Hall, and Bradman on the 'Tests, only in the Daily Mail'. Most of Bourne Estate, an Edwardian housing estate built in 1905-09, still exists and much of it is Grade II listed as one of the best examples of tenement architecture. The Verulam Street buildings, however, were destroyed during World War II along with factories and industrial buildings that bounded the estate at its the southern edge.
