Stafford Street, experimental locomotive
Stafford Street, experimental locomotive, construction of London Metropolitan Railway. This engine was designed by the Metropolitan Railway's chief engineer, John Fowler. It was meant to reduce emissions in tunnels by generating and re-using steam using stored heat from fire bricks. The prototype proved unsuccessful but gained the nickname 'Fowler's Ghost'. Includes male workers around the locomotive and spectators on the bridge above.
