Description
View from Stockwell Green, Stockwell, looking north to buildings on Stockwell Road. This area, the 'Green' of Stockwell Green, was open land until building commenced in the late nineteenth century after a dispute as to the rights of the freeholder, a Mr Honey, to appropriate the land for building purposes. A small child in a hat sits on the Green looking at the camera. The three-storey terrace with basements visible on the left, is now the site of a modern apartment block, The Glassyard Building. On the right, on Stockwell Road between Sidney Road and Herbert Road, stands a three-storey terrace with basements and attics. This site is now part of the Waltham Estate named after the proprietors of a brewery that was nearby.
