Description
Oblique view of the front elevations of 42-46 Dean Street, Soho. Numbers 42-43 house the 'Shanghai Steak House' at ground level. The building is three bays wide with a curved middle bay. Above the name of the restaurant, a clock sits on a projecting bracket and above the second-floor bay is the large lettering 'Founded A1816D'. This refers to the Royal Ear Hospital which moved to this building when it was built between 1903-1904. It subsequently became the Ear, Nose and Throat Department of University College Hospital. Numbers 44-46 are four-storey buildings and house on the ground floor 'Gennaro's', an Italian restaurant. There is a large vertical neon sign, stylised balconettes and sun shades above the restaurant. There are 'shields' with versions of the Italian, USA and UK flags. They are now home to The Groucho Club. To the left, the front of a Bedford CF van is seen and a Trust House Forte Supplies truck is parked, maybe with driver walking behind it. There is a sodium street light with a litter bin attached. It has a 'Keep Britain Tidy' sign attached.
