Description
Montagu House gate piers, Portman Square, Marylebone. Two gate piers stood either side of the entrance to Montagu House, which was built for Elizabeth Montagu (1718-1800). The house was designed by neoclassicist architect James Stuart and completed in 1781. It was situated in the north-west corner of Portman Square. Montagu House was destroyed during bombing in World War II. The gate piers no longer exist. The Nobu Hotel London Portman Square occupies the site.
