General view down Argyll Street, St James' Westminster, looking south towards the Liberty's department store in Great Marlborough Street. This Grade II* listed Tudor revival building was built in 1922-24 by Edwin T. Hall and E. Stanley Hall, reusing timber from the breaking up of two early nineteenth-century "men of war" sailing ships, HMS Hindustan and HMS Impregnable. It is Grade II* listed, listing number 1357064. The corner office block with a polished granite facade at the far end on the left at 1-4 Argyll Street is Palladium House, formerly known as Ideal House; it dates from 1928-35 and is Grade II listed, listing number 1357168. The barely visible building opposite, on the far end on the right, is the Argyll Street facade of the Dickins and Jones department store block designed in 1921-22 by Sir Henry Tanner. Its address is 224-244 Regent Street and it is Grade II listed, listing number 1265215. The building closes to the viewer on the right no longer exists, a multi-office block at 40 Argyll Street now stands on its site. Several cars, including a model Ford Y, are parked along the street and a blurred pedestrian is in view.
