Title
View of Theobalds Road
Description
View of Theobalds Road facing eastwards towards Drake Street, Holborn. The distinctive curved building on Drake Street is the back of Churchill House (main entrance at 35 Red Lion Square), built by Lander, Bells and Cromton in 1955-1956 and commissioned by Cassells Publishers. Since 2009 the building has been the premises of the Royal College of Anaesthetists. The photograph gives us a long view down Theobalds Road, showing traffic, pedestrians, parked cars, advertising hoardings and street furniture. The empty site on the right of the photograph would become the site of the Central Saint Martins art school building on Southampton Row.
