London Metropolitan Archives

London Metropolitan Archives (LMA) is a public research centre that specialises in the history of London. We care for and provide access to the historical archives of businesses, schools, hospitals, charities and all manner of other organisations from the London area. With millions of books, maps, photographs, films and documents dating back to 1067 in our strong rooms, we’re proud to provide access to one of the finest city archives in the world - you could call it the memory of London.

LMA is free to use and open to everyone. Our users have a wide range of research interests, including family, community and local history, and we work with students, artists, producers and architects. However, you don’t have to have a specific reason to visit us. If you’re fascinated by London you’re always welcome to drop in and browse the collections, you never know, you may uncover part of its lost history! The Guildhall Art Gallery

Guildhall Art Gallery

Located in the heart of the City of London in Guildhall Yard, the Gallery was established in 1886 as, 'a Collection of Art Treasures worthy of the capital city'. The collections date from 1670 to the present, and include seventeenth century portraits, Pre-Raphaelite masterpieces and a fascinating range of paintings documenting London's dramatic history.

General admission to the Gallery is free. Some exhibitions are ticketed, but are free to members of the Art Fund, Museums Association, Friends of Guildhall Art Gallery, under 16s and City of London residents (with proof of address). The Gallery also runs a regular programme of exhibitions and small displays throughout the year.
