Description
Models of Extinct Animals - the Iguanodon. The two models show different views of how this dinosaur might have appeared, one on four legs and the other sprawled like an iguana on a trunk. Part of a group of sculptures of dinosaurs and extinct mammals, amphibians and reptiles created by Benjamin Waterhouse Hawkins (1807-1894) in the 1850s for Crystal Palace Park in Sydenham, to compliment the arrival of the Crystal Palace from Hyde Park. Many of the sculptures can still be viewed today. To learn more about the sculptures, visit the Friends of Crystal Palace Dinosaurs site https://cpdinosaurs.org
